Unlimited Global Alchemy

This evening of dance, art, film and talking explores emotions in the face of serious health conditions like HIV and AIDS. It brings together artists from the UK and South Africa.

Unlimited Global Alchemy is a collaboration led by Rachel Gadsden (UK) and the Bambanani artist-activist Group from Khayelitsha Township (South Africa), joined by 15 other artists and writers from around the world.

Underpinned by themes of fragility and resilience, a shared and positive sense of survival in the face of chronic health conditions, and the politics and mythologies surrounding disability and in particular HIV and AIDS, this evening of performance, film and conversation offers an encounter which is at once visceral and heartfelt, irreverent and provocative.

The performance, co-directed by Gadsden and choreographer Athina Vahla, features performers Freddie Opoku- Addaie and Dr Sarah Chin, with Gadsden creating live visuals on stage, sound by Chas de Swiet and Paul Gundry and design by Mamoru Iriguchi and Michael Mannion.

It is followed by a screening of films featuring Rachel Gadsden and visiting Bambanani Group artist-activists Nondumiso Hlwele, Bongiwe Mba and Thobani Ncapai hear a discussion with them chaired by Tony Heaton.
